A South Florida Jewish community remains on alert, one week after a rabbi was shot and killed while walking to temple on the Sabbath.
A Miami-Dade Police helicopter and K-9 officers surveyed the neighborhood where 60-year-old Yosef Raksin was gunned down as he headed on foot to Bais Menachem Chabad, a synagogue in Northeast Miami-Dade, Aug. 9. The active scene on Saturday was part of the ongoing investigation into the Orthodox rabbi’s death.
Investigators said the motive for the shooting remains unclear. Raksin’s killer or killers are still at large.
Raksin’s family has been very vocal about what they believe led to the shooting. “I think it’s a hate crime because I haven’t heard someone was shot just like that,” said Shuly Labkowski, the rabbi’s daughter.
Raksin was visiting Labkowski and her family from Brooklyn, N.Y., where he lived.
Community members are offering a $50,000 reward to help solve the case.
Area resident and neighborhood watchman Yona Lunger said the community has been more vigilant since the shooting took place. “We’re working with certain individuals to have permission to sneak around at certain times in all the temples to beef up security,” he said. “We’re working on it because we have to take those measures now.”
Police said they are looking to talk to the driver of a silver Toyota Tundra pickup. They believe the driver may have been in the area and saw something the morning of the shooting.
In the meantime, police continue to do everything in their power to bring justice and peace of mind to a community in mourning.
If you have any information on Rabbi Raksin’s shooting, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.

Yes there were tonz of cops all shabbos. I can attest. Here on vacay. Felt safe
this whole thing is crazy
We hope they catch them real soon-it’s very tragic-but finding the killers will relieve the community and family
1) All the cops in the world won’t help if they never prosecute any crimes. 2) Response time is great… when there are 10 units in our 10 block radius. Lets see how it is in a month.
What’s taking so long to find the killers ?
Flying the ghettobirds overhead after the fact is for PR pusposes. These animals need full time watching, with police presence patrolling all the time.
