Is Another Round of Warfare with Hamas Likely?

hamasMany are uncertain as to the future of events surrounding Gaza as Operation Protective Edge appears to have ended in the eyes of many yet government officials insist it is not over.

Adding to the confusion, many chareidi reservists who were called for emergency service at the start of the operation and released about ten days ago were re-activated on Wednesday morning, 17 Menachem Av. They headed to the Gaza border area where the IDF is taking up position in preparation for a possible second round.

Thousands of soldiers, including some chareidi were activated on Wednesday morning and instructed to head towards the Gaza area. Among those called up are chareidim assigned to the unit that identifies the fallen in warfare.

Some posit that if the IDF is compelled to launch a second round of fighting against Hamas, the response will be far more severe than the ground forces were instructed to deliver in the first month of Operation Protective Edge.

It is worthy to note that the decision to activate thousands of reservists did not require cabinet approval since officially Operation Protective Edge continues and the cabinet has already given approval.

While yet another ceasefire has been agreed to by the parties, Israel remains skeptical based on Hamas’ past performance and disregard for ceasefire agreements.
