NY Law: Landlords, Builders To Disclose Sprinklers

fsNew York has a new law intended to inform renters and home owners about their home’s fire protection.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo this month signed legislation into law that will require landlords to give prospective renters written notice in the lease about whether or not an apartment has a sprinkler system. The new law also requires home builders of one- and two-family homes to let buyers known about the structure’s sprinklers.

Cuomo, a Democrat, says the state has seen too much “senseless tragedy” caused by avoidable fires and that the new law will help New Yorkers make more informed decisions about the apartments and homes they choose.
