Lt.-Colonel (reserves) Uri Schechter is organizing a pro-IDF event at month’s end to be held in Rabin Square in Tel Aviv. Schechter wishes to publically thank the IDF for the overwhelming success in Operation Protective Edge. He hopes to bring 500,000 people to participate in the event.
Schechter serves as a deputy brigade commander in the Nachal Brigade. He is confident that he will attract Israelis from all walks of life to harmoniously declare the IDF success in Gaza. He speaks of the special atmosphere and achdus that existed and the level of morale which has not been seen in decades.
Schechter explains that he and his colleagues feel this is the right thing to do towards publically acknowledging the victory as well as remembering the 64 officials and soldiers who fell in battle.

With success.
There should be more than 1/2 million people coming out to show hakaras hatov to the IDF, its volunteers and chesed workers. Count me in if I am in the country then!!
Just imagine the incredible Kiddush Sheim Shamayim BaRabim if there was a large and visible chareidi presence at this Hakaras HaTov event. The brave and holy IDF chayalim fought and died to defend all of our homes, including mine in Modiin and yours in Modiin Illit.
#2 What exactly is the Kiddush Sheim Shamayim with this event when the purpose is to thank the IDF – the kochi veotzem yadi, the power of their own ability – for their overwhelming success, instead of saying Hallel and thanking Hashem?
#3 Kochi voetzem yadi mantra died and was buried under the rubble of Lebanese hilltops.
Hakaras Hatov is regular normal ‘thank you’ as we write a thank you note to a Medical doctor, teacher, therapist or neighbor who has assisted us in the time of sorrow. Hashem runs the world with ‘shlichim’ — and the today’s soldiers of IDF are well aware that they are doing Hashem’s work.
