Livnat Turning to Supreme Court to Restrain PM Olmert

Likud MK Limor Livnat is planning to petition the Supreme Court in an attempt to halt Prime Minister Ehud Olmert from continuing his ‘business as usual’ attitude despite the fact he is the leader of a transition government.

Livnat is seeking to prevent Olmert from entering into another round of talks with the Syrians, insisting the leader of a transition government less than three months away from general election has no right to advance any major political process. Her opinion has been echoed by the attorney general and other senior civil servants, as well as among many lawmakers, including the new leaders of the Kadima Party, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni.

Olmert, who continues to ignore the goings-on around him, caused another political storm when he announced to the Syrians that Israel is ready for another round of talks as soon as Damascus is willing to respond.
