Gerrer Wedding Schedule Changed Due to Elections in Eretz Yisrael

YW-GER-23.jpgAs a result of the decision to hold general elections for the 18th Knesset on 16 Shvat (10 February) the family of the Gerrer Rebbe Shlita has decided to move up the wedding of a granddaughter of the Rebbe from motzei Tu B’Shvat to a week earlier, 9 Shvat.

Rav Yaakov Litzman of Agudas Yisrael attempted to change the chosen election day due to the wedding, in addition to explaining chassidim would be attending tischin for Tu B’Shvat and the following day, the ‘lag’ might negatively impact voter turnout. His efforts were unsuccessful.

In the meantime, two other prominent Gerrer chassidim are now searching for alternate wedding dates since they originally scheduled their events for 9 Shvat. The Rebbe has called on the appropriate people to see to it that the two weddings are accommodated to avoid causing the families any grief.

Gerrer officials explain the reason for moving the wedding up a week is due to the custom to hold weddings on Tuesday, twice “ki tov” and also during the first half of the month.

changing the date for the above reasons is pure shtus. and people wonder why there are complaints about the “chareidim”

  2. First and foremost hope the kallahs gown will be ready on time, second elections in Israel are like a yom tov, half day school, half day clean up the streets from electioneering papers.
