R’ Avraham Ovadia Z”L, the brother of Chacham Ovadia Yosef Shlita was Niftar today at the age of 80.
R’ Avraham Ovadia Z”L worked as a government accountant for the Jerusalem Municipality, searved as the Gabbai of his shul in the Shmuel Ha’Navi area of Yerushalayim, was Kovea I’itm L’torah, and an Osek Bitzarche Tzibur. For the last eight years of his life, the Niftar lived in Neve Simcha, an old age home in Yerushalayim.
He is survived by his two children, a son and a daughter.
Many Rabbanim attended the Levaya – including Rav Shlomo Amar, Rav Yonah Metzger, and Rav Reuven Elbaz.
Chacham Ovadia Yosef will be sitting Shivah in his home due to feeling weak, while the remaining Aveilim will be sitting Shiva elsewhere.

No offense, but I think Chacham Ovadia’s brother’s last name is probably Yoseph and not Ovadia. Just wanted to correct the common mistake.
# 1 Chacham Ovadia name “WAS” Ovadia Ovadia later on in his life he changed it to Ovadia Yoseph but his family (Brothers) kept the original last name.
So it is not a mistake his brothers name really was Avraham Ovadia Z”L…
More precisely, his original name was Ovadia Yosef ben Yaacov ben Ovadia. In Iraq they didn’t really have a family name. When his parents came to EY, the family of Yaacov (ben) Ovadia became known as the Ovadia family. But because ROY had two names of his own, over time his second name became his family name.
