An Israeli businessman, in his 60s, was abducted in Ghana a number of days ago, Israel Radio reported on Friday morning. The abducted man’s partner is reportedly involved in the negotiations towards obtaining his release. His captors are demanding hundreds of thousands of dollars for his release. According to some reports, they were originally calling for $500,000 but then lowered the sum to $300,000.

Israel Foreign Ministry officials confirm the incident, explaining they are involved and are in touch with Israeli diplomatic officials in Nigeria. Foreign Ministry media liaison Yossi Levy is calling on the media to exhibit caution in covering the story, explaining the situation is a precarious one and a life hangs in the balance.
