During the first hours of the ground forces operation in Gaza an IDF soldier was killed in Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza. The soldier was transported to Barzilai Hospital in serious condition but despite resuscitation attempts, he could not be saved.

Military sources report an investigation is underway. It is possible that he was not killed by enemy fire but by mistaken IDF fire.

Two other soldiers wounded during the night were transported to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheva. Their injuries are not described as serious.

UPDATED: The soldier killed during the night has been identified as Nachal Sergeant Eitan Barak, 20, from Herzliya.
