Indictments Against Suspects in the Murder of Muhmad Abu-Khadir

Mohammed Abu KhdeirThree suspects in the murder of 16-year-old Muhmad Abu-Khadir are being indicted today, Thursday, 19 Tammuz 5774, in the Jerusalem District Court. The main suspect is reported to be a 30-year-old resident of Yishuv Adam, whose attorney will claim he is not mentally sound. The other two suspects, both 17, are from Beit Shemesh and Yerushalayim, and their attorney will explain they only meant to injure the Arab teen, not kill him.

The three will also be indicted for the attempted abduction of a 7.5-year-old from the Beit Haninah area of the capital. This incident occurred a day prior to the kidnapping and murder of Abu-Khadir.

  1. Does someone here know how lack of mental soundness might affect a sentence? I imagine that either way, there is no chance for a death sentence. Now, if he’s mentally sound, you might put him away for this terrible action. If he’s not mentally sound, certainly you’d want to take this guy off the streets for a very long time. In short, lack of mental soundness should not be tied to a lighter sentence.
