Left-Wing Opposes Jerusalem Street Naming After Arutz-7 Radio Host

For the last time under the tenure of Jerusalem Mayor Rabbi Uri Lupoliansky, the city’s Street Naming Committee will convene, planning to name a street after the late Arutz-7 Radio host, Adir Zik z”l.

The recommendation was made by Deputy Mayor (National Religious Party) Shmuel Shkedy. He is seeking to name a street in the Ramat Eshkol neighborhood, where Zik lived. The committee approved the request but there is strong opposition from the left-wing.

Zik was best known for his sharp criticism of the mainstream and left-wing media on his program which dissected main news event and showed the dangers resulting from government policies.

MK Zahava Gal-On of the left-wing Meretz Party objects to the move, stating the proposed move exhibits the problems with the current administration. Meretz Jerusalem City Councilman Saar Netanel also expressed objections, stating the idea of naming a street after Zik is an “outrage since he made a habit of inciting against the late prime minister, Yitzchak Rabin”.

Jerusalem City Hall released a statement that a final decision on the matter is pending.
