Jerusalem Attack in Nof Tzion, Police Arrest the Security Guard

mishArabs in a passing vehicle during the night (Monday-Tuesday) of 10 Tammuz 5774 fired at homes in the Nof Tzion neighborhood in southeastern Jerusalem. A security guard in the area returned fire. Police arrived and arrested the guard.

At about 00:30 in the morning, shots rang out at the Jewish homes in the area from a passing vehicle. The community security officer witnessed the gunfire and returned fire at the fleeing vehicle. He then summoned police.

The terrorists fled the scene. Police had still not arrived after 20 minutes and the security officer continued calling, trying to explain the severity of what occurred. When police finally arrived on the scene they opted to place the security officer in custody rather than trying to apprehend the perpetrators.

The security officer, a married man with children, called on Honenu to defend him, perplexed as to why he was arrested in the case. Police remanded him and requested to keep him in custody. The Jerusalem Magistrate Court rejected the police request to keep him behind bars for six days, releasing him with restrictions and bail.

The security officer is being defended by Honenu’s Avi Kedar.

  1. Wow, a lot of stuff is missing from this story. Allow me to fill in some details, direct from Nof Tzion: Number one, the security guard, along with a friend who was outside the building with him, were shot at by local hostile Arabs, drive-by style. The resident on security patrol did not “return fire.” Nice if he could have. He fired into the air to frighten off the shooters, who were hard to see in the dark. The unlucky fellow was arrested by Arab police!!! The police arrested him on grounds that he shot at innocent people unprovoked, as an aggressor, and that there was no substance to his claim that he was shot at. Most likely, they decided, there were people nearby throwing harmless firecrackers and he used that as an excuse to shoot lovely, sweet and kind Arab neighbors. So he was basically tried and convicted by the police who never even looked for evidence, and sentenced to 5 or 6 days in jail, while his wife, children and babies waited at home in fear and confusion. Here is the reason he was released the next day: A neighbor, NOT a police or detective, checked out the scene by daylight and found the fence behind where they had stood riddled with bullet holes, AS WELL AS bullets that had penetrated the metal “triss” and window of the apartment right there (another ness: the woman who lived there was not home that night). Yes, it does seem the case was not closed! The residents of Nof Tzion are planning a big protest outside that police precinct, to bring attention to this ridiculous misdeed. Hope something is accomplished.

  2. most of the police are arab or druze, this is a normal occurrence…they would prefer we let them kill us.
