On Sunday July 6, 2014 State Police at Liberty arrested Julio Palmares, age 23 of Monticello after a brief vehicle and foot pursuit in the Village of Monticello. At approximately 2pm a Trooper on patrol attempted to stop a 2006 Infiniti being operated by Palmares on Route 42 for traffic violations. The vehicle sped away and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit ended after Palmares lost control and crashed onto the front lawn of the Sullivan County government center. Palmares attempted to flee on foot, but was taken into custody by State Police after a short foot pursuit.
Palmares was charged with Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, a felony, Resisting Arrest, Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree, misdemeanors and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a violation. Palmares was also found to be under the supervision of NYS Parole. He was arraigned in the Village of Monticello Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail with no bail set.
