Every year the nation’s Child Welfare Council tracks the number of children killed during the summer recess. While that number declined this past summer, it still reached an alarming 21.
In 2006, 34 children were killed and in 2007, 31. The number reflects children under the age of 18. Most lost their lives due to vehicular and household accidents, but some were the victim of violent crime.
During 2008, an average of 6-7 children are killed monthly explained the council’s head, Dr. Yitzchak Kadmon. Kadmon states this is a sad statement for the adult population of the country, which he feels is capable of turning the numbers around with a modicum of effort, concern and caution.
