Rav Eliezer Glaubstein was niftar on Wednesday night the eve of 28 Sivan 5774 in Shaare Zedek Medical Center. The rav was known his entire life as a man of chessed far surpassing his role as head of the Prushim Chevra Kadisha.

The niftar became weakened over recent months due to his deteriorating health and was admitted to Shaare Zedek about a month ago.

Many are unaware that it was Rav Glaubstein who began the Chessed Shel Emmes organization in Eretz Yisroel, which later on became Zaka. He was the first to get out into the streets to give kovod to the deceased from road accidents, terror attacks or whatever the situation. He and his team were the ones that dealt with the victims of the terror attack on the Jerusalem – Tel Aviv Highway when a suicide terrorist grabbed the wheel and the bus plummeted down into a ravine. It was 1989, when a terrorist on an Egged 405 bus traveling to the capital grabbed the steering wheel and the bus was sent tens of meters down into the ravine, murdering 16 people HY”D.

The niftar also served as a Jerusalem councilman in the Shlomei Emunim party as the Chabad representative.

The levaya was held on Wednesday night at Shamgar. Zaka released a message recognizing Rav Gubstein’s years of chessed on behalf of the tzibur, adding it was he who conceived of the concept of the chessed shel emmes organization.
