Minister of Education (Yesh Atid) Rabbi Shai Piron has established a committee that will probe and make recommendations as how to cut classroom overcrowding and education costs to parents. He announced the committee will make its recommendations in 5775 and the actual implementation will be seen in the 5776 school year. The first priority will be schools that currently use substandard classrooms.
Piron made his remarks during a session of the Knesset Education Committee, a session that was attended by many angry parents who stated the classroom overcrowding nationwide has reached intolerable proportions. The minister promised that the committee and his office will work with parents and the implementation of change will be in sync with parents and not a unilateral ministry move.
The parents were far less than pleased with the minister’s announcement, calling on the ministry to finance new classrooms for 5775, unwilling to wait an additional year.
