*Shmitah-observant farmers on Thursday returned to their fields after a one-year break in observance of the mitzvah.

*709 babies were born in Israel during Rosh Hashanah.

*Border police on Thursday morning evicted residents from the Shvut Ami Bet outpost near Kedumim in Shomron. They also confiscated equipment and destroyed structures erected on premises. Residents of the outpost vowed to return by the end of the day, stating the outpost will be rebuilt. Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) reported that in retaliation, the residents set an olive grove ablaze. Daniela Weiss, the former mayor of Kedumim, was arrested for assaulting an officer during the mayhem.
