Major kashrus agencies in the U.S. are moving swiftly to assuage fears that kosher products will be laced with some of the toxins that have made nearly 50,000 Chinese children ill (reported HERE on YWN).
The agencies that certify several hundred Chinese companies are planning to require proof of verified safety programs at each of the plants, according to Rabbi Moshe Elefant, Chief Operating Officer of the Kashrus Division of the Orthodox Union (OU). KosherToday has learned that the agencies, including the Star-K of Baltimore, that certify many companies in China, will also require kosher certification for imported Category I (no kosher certification required) ingredients, despite the fact they would not require certification in the U.S. or from other countries.
The key culprit in the tainted Chinese dairy products is melamine, the same banned substance that caused last year’s scare over toothpaste, seafood and dumplings, and was blamed for the tainted pet food that killed dogs and cats in the U.S. Kosher sources in the U.S. are confident that the U.S. regulatory agencies including the FDA “will nip any problem in the bud” before recalls become necessary.
The European Union has banned Chinese baby food that contains any traces of milk and many countries throughout the world are taking steps to keep the Chinese products out.

Watch out for some of the candy imported from China.Check all your labels, it’s not worth taking a chance
AS I have said before- having been burned by Chinese “businesses”- I would not trust them under my nose- kol shekain behind my back- the whole Chinese way of doing business is based on defrauding the customer- their shitah is that there is a new sucker coming along every minute-
It is time for the Kashrus agencies to know this once and for all- we have enough issues here in the states- why look for potential problems abroad- especially when manpower and resources are limited- eloh mai- BUSINESS- vedoch zil gmor
A Gmar Chasimah Tovah to all-
There are a number of HEIMISHE tuna companies who import from China. Check the labels. Gmar chs”t to all.

I hope Yeshiva world meant NOT LACED WITH TOXINS. The missing word in the articlle is “NOT.”
Also the word Assuage is in the wrong context.
Does anyone read and spell check these news items?
Maybe there should be an english major writing the articles so we do not get dizzy?

You wish it was only a number that do business in China. 99% of kosher foods are coming out of China. The OU and OK give most of the Chinese their certifications.
DO NOT TRUST THE CHINESE. THe Chinese are slick people and will steal any which way they can. If you want to do business with them then fly there and WATCH ALL PRODUCTIONS and have a way of sealing the boxes yourself where it can’t be duplicated. Do not trust the chinese.
The Chinese have no yir’as Shomayim and no respect for agreements and foreign laws. They will take your money and do business their way-anyway,and no regard for any legalities. Why should they respect kashrus? As long as the price is right, nice and low due to their slave-labor,we will buy and they will ignore laws;kashrus included. Why should we trust them? Why should they care what we want? As long as the price is right,we will buy and look the other way.
To whom it may concern:
The major, trust-worthy Kashrus agencies, are Baruch H-Shem not naive, as some people may think. They are run by Yidden who do have yiras Shamayim, Baruch HaShem. These Rabbanim know halacha… not just in kashrus… but also in ne’emanus. Halacha does not change. Circumstances do. They are also surprisingly well-informed.
Taking responsibility for the kosher food intake of klal yisrael requires, and hopefully merits siyata d’shmaya.
