The head of the Shas Moetzas Gedolei Yisrael HaGaon HaRav Shalom Cohen Shlita congratulated President-elect Reuven Rivlin on his victory in this week’s presidential election.

Sheva brachos for a son of Aryeh Deri was held in the home of HaGaon Harav David Yosef on Wednesday night the eve of 14 Sivan. Among those in attendance were rabbonim from Shas’ Torah Council and prominent rabbonim from around Israel. Among the notables was the president-elect, who received best wishes from Rav Cohen. Other guests included Rishon L’Tzion HaGaon HaRav Yitzchak Yosef Shlita, HaGaon HaRav Eliyahu Bakshi-Doron Shlita, Kosel Rav Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz Shlita, HaGaon HaRav Yitzchok Dovid Grossman Shlita, and Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat.

Deri was quick to share his enthusiasm over Rivlin’s victory, stating there was no doubt he is the best man for the job.

In his words, HaGaon HaRav Cohen stated the Rivlin was elected during the week following Shavuos, at the time we read about the nissi’im selected to explore Eretz Yisrael. Rav Cohen have Rivlin a bracha that he should merit being like Yehoshua and Kalev. The rav explained that of the 12 nissi’im only two were tzaddikim and the other ten brought a disaster to Am Yisrael.
