Attorney General Menachem Mazuz has informed the “Ometz” (Courage) organization that there is insufficient evidence to bring criminal charges against Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger. The case pertains to allegations of improprieties by the chief rabbi regarding wedding ceremonies for people unable to marry under regular circumstances, and allegations of inappropriate behavior regarding an incident with a French photographer.
Mazuz’s assistant, attorney Raz Nizri released a statement that the lack of evidence in the case should not be interpreted as a “teudat hecsher” (kashrus certificate) for the alleged actions. “The decision in the case refers only to the legal aspect which falls under the jurisdiction of the attorney general” he explained.
