Will the Breakdown in Talks with the PA Result in a Coalition Crisis

bibelaAfter PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) signed a coalition agreement with Hamas, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu announced Israel will not continue negotiating with the PA (Palestinian Authority). As a result of the breakdown in talks, MK (The Movement) Amram Mitzne is calling on his party’s leader, Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, to break away from the coalition. Minister of Welfare (Yesh Atid) Meir Cohen has announced he feels his party cannot continue in a government that will become a binational state as a result of our own decisions.

Cohen announced over the weekend that if negotiations between Israel and the PA do not resume, Israel will become a binational state as a result and his party cannot be a part of such a process. Yesh Atid MK Ronen Hoffman announced the party’s job is to prevent “extremists from running the coalition”, referring to Bayit Yehudi.

  1. Unless one side, or the other, is willing to cut a deal with the hareidim (i.e. cancel the draft of hareidim, which probaqbly would require ending conscription altogether), both sides are stuck. To Likud, Bayit Yehudi and Yesh Atid, the war on the hareidim is clearly their highest priority. They all agree that the realization of the zionist dream requires destruction of the hareidim – what to do about the Arabs is secondary.
