Motzei Shabbos News Briefs from Eretz Yisrael


yw_israel7.jpg*A terrorist carrying a firebomb was detected on his way to Yishuv Yitzhar. He was shot and killed by soldiers who saw him ignite the incendiary device and prepare to throw it. Last Shabbos, a 9-year-old boy was stabbed and a home was destroyed by a lone terrorist who set it ablaze after successfully entering the Shomron community. Residents today blamed Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s response to last week’s attack for the attempted attack.

*A truck driver was carjacked by a number of Arabs in the Azzoun Bypass Road on erev Shabbos. He notified authorities who began a search and located the truck and placed the carjackers under arrest. No injuries were reported.

*Security forces operating in Dahariya on Shabbos, in the Chevron district, was bombarded with rocks. A number of vehicles were damaged. Two of the assailants were taken into custody. No injuries were reported.

*Lauren Booth, Mideast Quartet envoy Tony Blair’s sister-in-law, left Gaza on Saturday via the Rafiach Crossing. She arrived on August 23rd on a boat manned by self-acclaimed peace activists who decried “Israel strangulation of Gaza citizens and the ongoing embargo”.

*An explosive device was detonated without incident by IDF forces near Kissufim Crossing on the Gaza border.

*IDF soldiers on Shabbos afternoon detected three infiltrators along the border to Egypt in the el-Charif area. They fired at the three, killing one. The others fled.

*Three Jewish youths were arrested by police in Chevron on Shabbos afternoon for allegedly throwing rocks at Arabs. Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) reported that while the arrests were taking place, a number of tires of police vehicles were slashed.
