Israel Police is recommending a criminal indictment against Ashdod’s Shas-affiliated deputy mayor after its 433 Investigations Unit established there is sufficient evidence to charge him with breach of trust, bribery and money laundering. Police recommendations for indictments include a number of people including the Shas deputy mayor and other city officials and contractors in the city.
The police recommendations follow a prolonged investigation of two years and the recovery of evidence via search warrants from the homes of some of the persons mentioned by police. Police allege the deputy mayor and other embezzled hundreds of thousands of shekels by advancing projects for real estate developers and other parties of interest.
