Cheektowaga, NY – On June 2, 2014 just after 9 a.m., State Police received a report of a Uhaul box truck rolled on its side and up against the guide rail at mile marker 417 of I-90 eastbound.
Troopers arrived and found the driver uninjured. The operator, a government contracted transporter, advised police he was carrying approximately 2 million dollars worth of gold and silver inside the truck. State Police secured the scene, verified the driver’s credentials, and arranged for an armored vehicle to respond and offload the precious metals.
The cargo consisted of large mechanical filter like cores used in military aircraft which contain amounts of gold and silver.
The left lane remained temporarily closed at that location for the recovery of the vehicle and its contents. All of the material was safely offloaded and transferred to another vehicle. No other vehicles were involved and the cause of the accident is under investigation.
