Flatbush: Serious Crash At Coney Island Avenue, And Avenue N Leaves Woman Dead

amb.jpgA car crash at the intersection of Coney Island Avenue and Avenue N killed a 63-year-old woman crossing the street Shabbos afternoon.

Police say they received calls around 12:30 reporting the crash, and found a serious accident involving three vehicles and a pedestrian at the intersection of Coney Island Avenue and Avenue N. A police investigation determined that a 45-year-old female operating a 2009 Mitsubishi SUV was traveling eastbound on Avenue N when a 29-year-old male operating a 2013 Ford Fiesta, traveling southbound on Coney Island in the left lane, struck the front left fender of the Mitsubishi SUV in the intersection, causing both vehicles to rotate in a clockwise motion. As the Ford Fiesta was rotating, it struck a 63-year-old female pedestrian who was walking in the marked south crosswalk from east to west on Avenue N. After striking the pedestrian, the Ford Fiesta and the Mitsubishi SUV continued to rotate and struck a 2009 Nissan Murano, being operated by a 32-year-old male, which was stopped at the red light in the left lane of northbound Coney Island, where all three vehicles came to a rest.

EMS responded to the scene and transported the pedestrian to Kings County Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased. All three vehicle operators were not injured. The investigation is ongoing.

The deceased has been identified as Truglio, Galina (63).

  1. That corner has a reversed street light so its a wonder more accidents didn’t happen there.
When turning from Coney to ave N first you have the arrow signaling a turn and then you can go straight. So when you see yellow you might assume that turn signal is about to go on like it is at most other intersections but in fact you get red light and traffic from ave N gets green.

Yes but it doesn’t seem from the article that the Fiesta was in the turning lane. And if the Mitsubishi was already in middle of the intersection then your scenario would mean the Fiesta turned way after the light was red, not just after yellow.
