Two officers and three IDF soldiers were killed in battles in south Lebanon on Sunday. In addition, an officer and three soldiers were seriously injured, and 25 soldiers were lightly injured. Just hours before the ceasefire is expected to go into effect, Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah planned last-minute attacks on Israel Sunday. IDF forces operating north of Metula on the Lebanese side of the border located a truck filled with explosives. Military officials estimate terrorists planned to detonate the truck near the Lebanon-Israel border.
The soldiers attacked the truck and it was destroyed inside Lebanese territory.
Earlier on Sunday a Hizbulllah drone crashed, apparently due to a malfunction, near the Lebanese city of Tyre, while another was shot down by the IAF over south Lebanon.
Hizbullah is in possession of several Mirsad-type drones, some of which were flown over Israel on a number of occasions. Sundays incident marked the fourth time a Hizbullah drone has infiltrated Israeli skies in the past two years; just last week the IAF shot down a drone just 10 kilometers (about six miles)off the coast northwest of Haifa. The drone, which was not booby-trapped, was heading south when it was spotted by IAF forces.
Security officials estimate that the previous attempt to fly a drone over Israel was carried out by Hizbullah as part of its psychological warfare efforts.
