On Sunday, authorities reported that police and tax inspectors apprehended five suspects alleged to be involved in the smuggling of 15 tons of tobacco into Israel from India. The tobacco is valued at NIS millions. Among the suspects in custody is a Port of Ashdod customs official believed to be working with the smugglers.
The five were arraigned on Sunday and they were remanded for 24 hours.
