According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, 35% of Jerusalem’s Jewish population is chareidi and 37% of the capital’s residents is Arab.
The information was released ahead of Jerusalem Day by the Central Bureau of Statistics on Sunday, 25 Iyar. The report reveals that the chareidi population of the capital continues to grow. There are currently 816,300 residents in Jerusalem, of which 515,200 are labeled “Jewish or others” and 301,100 are Arabs. According to the data, the Jerusalem grew by 12,400 residents in 2012.
35% of the Jews living in the capital describe themselves as “chareidi”, 18% “religious”, 12% “traditional religious”, 14% traditional and only 20% non-religious.
In 2012 there were 10,500 new arrivals in the city as compared to 19,200 Jerusalemites who packed their bags and went elsewhere. According the CBS the new residents arrived from Bnei Brak, Tel Aviv, Beit Shemesh, Maale Adumim, Haifa, Betar Illit, Mevasseret Tzion and Ashdod. Residents opting to leave the city moved to Beit Shemesh, Tel Aviv, Betar Illit, Modi’in Illit, Givat Ze’ev, Bnei Brak, Maale Adumim and Haifa.
During 2012, there were 22,800 births in the capital, of which 14,300 were Jewish or other and 8,080 Arab. 13.3% of the newborns of all of the children born during the year were born in the capital. The average Jerusalem home is comprised of 3.9 persons which is higher than the national average of 3.3.
75% of the residents of Jerusalem are satisfied with the area they live in. Broken down, satisfaction among Jews in 81% as compared to 64% in the Arab sector.
