Shas Party leader Minister Eli Yishai over the weekend released yet another statement that his party will not sit in any government that conducts negotiations over the future of Yerushalayim.
Yishai stated that Rav Ovadia Yosef Shlita has stated that Yerushalayim is not up for discussion and ongoing efforts to reach an agreement with Israel’s neighbors does not include making concessions regarding Israel’s total and unconditional sovereignty over the Jewish capital. He adds that any new government will have to declare Yerushalayim is not up for discussion as a prerequisite to Shas joining. This would make Shas’ inclusion in a cabinet formed by Tzipi Livni most unlikely, and even Shaul Mofaz, who has a harder stance regarding the capital, has indicated he remains committed to talks with Israel’s neighbors.
The announcement by Yishai represents a hardening of the Shas position, since in the past, the party was willing to sit in a government that delayed or postponed talks on Yerushalayim, but today, it says any government that does not rule out talks of compromise regarding the capital will not include Shas.
Should Shas remain firm in its position, general elections could take place sometime between February and April 2009.

Hardening of thier position?! What a joke. All that means is they are waiting foe more shekels from Olmert to stay in. What a disgrace and Chilul Hahsem.
The problem is that according to Horav Ovadya Yosef: ONLY Yerushalaim is not up for discussion but THE REST of Yehuda and Shomron – including Chevron and bais Lechem – IS UP FOR DISCUSSION…!
This is NOT good.
but will he allow “transparency” in announcing a: how much $$$ he will accept ?
and
b: who gets the $$$$ ?
