Transportation Minister (Likud) Yisrael Katz is calling for expanding the boundaries of Yerushalayim to include Betar Illit. The minister announced he will be preparing a bill addressing a “greater Yerushalayim” which will expand the borders of Israel’s capital to include surrounding communities.
Katz explains there are model for this in other areas of the world, and he envisions bringing communities into the capital while permitting them to maintain their autonomy and benefit from being under the wing of Jerusalem City Hall. Katz stresses the plan in no way is designed to interfere with the day-to-day running of the chareidi community.

I think Mr Katz is thinking a bit ahead of himself. B’ymos HaMoshiach the whole of Eretz Yisroel will become like Yerushalayim and a much bigger area (the inhabited world) more like Eretz Yisroel. But, unfortunately, that’s still in the future.
