Kadima leadership candidate Shaul Mofaz, a former IDF chief of staff and defense minister, has enlisted many of his former colleagues who are coming out openly to support him in the primary race. A number of reserve duty major-generals announced they stand behind Mofaz, including Yanush Ben-Gal and Yair Naveh. A letter was signed by 15 senor military commanders, expressing their support for Mofaz’s candidacy in the party’s leadership race.
One of Mofaz’s opponents in the leadership race, former ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet) director Avi Dichter, has also turned to former colleagues for support, producing a letter signed by 15 former senior Shin Bet officials.
In the meantime, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, a former Mossad agent, leads according to the polls.
