Fires Break Out In Beit Shemesh After Houthi Ballistic Missile Is Intercepted By Arrow System


Sirens blared in the Jerusalem hills, the Beit Shemesh area, and Kiryat Arba on Monday morning at about 6 a.m. as a missile launched by the Houthis in Yemen headed to the area.

Residents of the Beit Shemesh area reported hearing explosions and the police and Magen David Adom teams began searching the area. B’Chasdei Hashem, there were no injuries.

However, shrapnel from interceptor missiles fell in the Beit Shemesh area, causing several fires involving multiple vehicles and grassy areas. “Firefighters are currently working to extinguish the fires and prevent the spread of flames to nearby structures and vehicles,” the Fire and Rescue Department stated. “Alongside the firefighting efforts, firefighters are conducting additional searches in the area to rule out further fires and damage from interceptor/missile fragments.”

The IDF spokesperson later stated that the sirens were sounded in the Beit Shemesh area due to a ballistic missile launched “from the east” and that the missile was intercepted by the Arrow missile defense system before it crossed into Israel.

The spokesperson added that “the Air Force overnight intercepted four drones heading towards Israel ‘from the east.’ Two drones were intercepted before they crossed into Israel. Alerts were activated according to policy.”

A pro-Iranian militia in Iraq claimed responsibility for attacking “four vital targets” in the north and south of the country.

Later on Monday morning, the Houthis took responsibility for the attack, claiming that it targeted the Nachal Sorek IDF base in central Israel.

  1. Unfortunately their were injuries. One of my neighbors broke their leg as they hastily made their way downstairs to a bomb shelter while half asleep, missing the last step. Hashem should send a refuah shleyma to all choley amcha Yisrael.
