An airstrike on October 17 that targeted a former school in the northern Gaza Strip being used by Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorists, killed at least 18 members of the two terror organizations, according to a joint statement from the IDF and Shin Bet.
The strike hit a command post embedded within the Abu Hussein School, which the operatives were using to plan and carry out attacks against Israel and its troops in Gaza. The IDF and Shin Bet identified 18 members of Hamas and Islamic Jihad who were killed in the operation.
Palestinian media reported a higher death toll, claiming 24 people were killed and 150 wounded in the airstrike.
According to the IDF, the targeted operatives were responsible for recent rocket fire on Israel and were actively planning additional attacks in the coming days.
In its statement, the Israeli military emphasized efforts to minimize civilian casualties during the strike. The operation utilized precision munitions, aerial surveillance, and other intelligence-gathering methods to reduce the risk to non-combatants.
