Report: US Wants To Weaken Hezbollah’s Political Control; Qatar & Egypt Warn: “Plan Will Fail”

The Biden administration is trying to use Israel’s war against Hezbollah as an opportunity to end the terror group’s control of Lebanon by electing a new president, the Wall Street Journal reported.

According to US and Arab officials, Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke to the leaders of Qatar, Egypt and Saudi Arabia in recent days and requested that they support the election of a new Lebanese president, the report said. Senior White House official Amos Hochstein also spoke to Arab officials, telling them that Israel’s recent blows to Hezbollah that left the terror group reeling could be a prime opportunity to break the political impasse that caused Lebanese political parties to fail to elect a new president since Michel Anoun’s term ended in 2022.

Hezbollah is not just a terror group in Lebanon but is also an influential political party.

“What we want to see come out of this situation, ultimately, is Lebanon able to break the grip that Hezbollah has had on the country—more than a grip, break the stranglehold that Hezbollah has had on the country and remove Hezbollah veto over a president,” State Department spokesman Matt Miller told reporters this week.

Key Lebanese leaders, such as Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, the leader of another Shiite faction, said they support the election of a new president. On the other hand, they have “also expressed appreciation for Hezbollah in its battle against Israeli forces.”

Egyptian and Qatar officials told US officials that the plan is unrealistic and even dangerous, saying that “Israel will never succeed in destroying Hezbollah and that the terror group must be a part of any political settlement to the ‘conflict.'”

Saudi officials support the US plan.

After the 1982 Lebanon War, Israel supported the election of a new president, Bachir Gemayel, the Maronite Christian leader of the far-right Lebanese Forces. He was assassinated weeks after taking office.

“The more a new Lebanese president is seen to have come to office on the coattails of Israeli military actions with American support, the more discredited I think he will be among many Lebanese,” said Robert Ford, a former U.S. ambassador to Syria and Algeria.

  1. The Biden White House has been one of America’s greatest follies. A president, who is mostly brain dead, a vice president who lacks moral value and intellect, and advisers who value anti-Israel terror more precious than the welfare of American citizens have done it again. Regime change doesn;t even pass the smell test. But worse is the complete inability to comprehend what has become obvious to anyone that has intelligence and a moral compass.

Hezbollah is a terror group. There is no political anything with these subhuman, bloodthirsty savages. Whether they are a political party or not is irrelevant. They must be exterminated. Yes, dead, as in corpse, carcass, and neutralized. If there are any left who have sworn off anything resembling terror, violence, and hate, maybe they can regroup and form a party. Otherwise, the only good member of Hezbollah is a dead one.

When Biden and his crew think up these things, they might have a script for a TV series or a movie. But there is no redeeming value for such ideas. However, they do expose just how corrupt the brains of these Democrats are.
