All of Klal Yisrael is davening for the safety of IDF soldiers who entered Lebanon overnight Monday to continue Israel’s mission to decimate Hezbollah and protect the residents of Israel.
Before entering southern Lebanon, the commander of the 7th Armored Brigade, Capt. Rabbi Moshe Chaim Makamel, recited a tefilla for Siyata Dishmaya and blew the shofar.
The 7th Brigade, the oldest armored brigade in the IDF, is part of the Northern Command and operates Merkava Mark IV tanks. It is part of the elite 98th Division which was transferred from Gaza to lead the incursion into Lebanon.

The IDF should just hire an official בעל תוקע every time its the same thing: a whole moving prayer followed by a few croaks of the shofar that sounds like a hoarse goose fighting for its life
Do they have a יתד added to the weapons, to cover up their צואה?
This was filmed on Yom Tov and is חילול יום טוב – it is פקוח נפש to fight, but no heter to video תקיעת שופר
Therefore the video is מעשה שבת (well, מעשה יום טוב !!) and is ossur to watch. Same goes for photos.
I was tempted to watch but I asked a Rav who unequivocally said it’s ossur.
The YNW, and the readership are not obliged to follow my Rav’s psak, but I doubt that any rov will allow it.
Moderators Note: Sometimes, it actually pays to READ. Hope you presented the shaila – in full – to your Rov (as is required according to halacha), and showed him this post. For the life of us, we can’t understand how you and your Rov (if you actually showed him this) didn’t see that this story is dated October 2 on Erev Rosh Hashanah, not to mention the article says this occurred on MONDAY. (Rosh Hashanah started on Wednesday night).
For reference about מעשה שבת
see ארחות שבת ח”ג סוף פרק כ”ה
even R’ Yisroel Yakov Fisher who was known for his lenient pesokim did not allow
also מצד מראה אין בו מעילה – see יביע אומר ח”ו או”ח סימן ל”ד אות ה who brings many ראיות that לענין זה there is איסור הנאה even from מראה
You are right – I just read the title and moved on, despite the temptation to see this post.
I did not say any Loshon Hora to anyone about the YWN, I just asked the Rav generally – and actually it was not about this post, it was about the video of the recovery of hostages which occurred on Shabbos, a few months back. I have still not seen that. Do you have a heter for me to watch it? I’d love a heter. Meanwhile, I’ve watched this video, and am waiting to seen the other one….
