After the violent expulsion of the residents of the Maale Rechavam outpost, residents of Givat Assaf in Shomron agreed to leave voluntarily on Thursday, 15 Iyar 5774.
After losing legal battles in the Supreme Court the resident of these communities and Ramat Gilad in northern Shomron were declared illegal, with the court accepting documentation from PA (Palestinian Authority) residents who maintained the communities were constructed on their private land.
There was the expulsion of Jews from Yamit by the Menachem Begin administration. The peace agreement reached between Israel and Egypt compelled the expulsion of the 2,500 residents of the Sinai community, which was carried out in 1982. In 2005 the government expelled close to 10,000 people from Gaza and northern Shomron communities and since then, there have been several expulsions from communities including Migron.

Given that the Israeli Supreme Court can be overruled by an absolute majority (61 out of 120) of the Kenesset – one should not “blame” the Court but should “blame” the politicians. Anything you don’t like about the Israeli government is within the power of the majority coalition to change.
