Good news for Jerusalem residents. The city’s planning board has given its stamp of approval of plans for expanding Shaare Zedek Medical Center. This would mean the hospital will grow from encompassing a 48 dunam (12 acre) area to an 82 duman (20.5 acre) area. In addition, its building rights are tripled to 283,000 square meters of land without including parking.
The need surrounds the increase in the number of patients seen in the medical center and the plans should provide a response to the changing needs and future of the institution through the preparation of architectural program projected for 2035. Shaare Zedek has the highest growth rate in Israel.
The new campus will be composed of three new buildings including one dedicated for patient admissions. It will be constructed in stages and serve other hospital needs including research, medical services, staff services, nursing services, support services, a motel, emergency power facilities and more.
