Kings County DA Hynes Announces Sentencing in Swastika Case

da hynes.jpgKings County District Attorney Charles J. Hynes today announced the sentencing of Pavel Andreenko, 22, to 11 months in jail for spray painting swastikas around Flatbush and Sheepshead Bay on 11 separate incidents. He pled guilty on July 25 to Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree, and was sentenced today before Supreme Court Justice Guy J. Mangano.

Andreenko spray painted swastikas on 11 Flatbush and Sheepshead Bay buildings between December 19, and 23, 2007. After each incident, Andreenko called 911 to report the crimes, anonymously. A police officer who knew Andreenko from earlier criminal activity saw the defendant leaving a pay phone after he placed one of these calls. He was later picked up at his home and questioned. After detectives listened to the 911 recordings and recognized his voice, Andreenko was arrested.

Richard Farrell, Counsel to the Rackets Division, prosecuted the case. Michael Vecchione is Chief of the Rackets Division.

  1. I think the sentence was too short…typical Hynes move…do something but not enough!..The judge should be ashamed of himself also…what was he thinking…sets a bad example for future hate crimes…
