The whole level of discourse has declined since the time of Reagan and even Clinton. Policy disputes were substantive and even personal digs were somehow framed in non-pejorative terms and with Reagan, a great sense of humor and light sarcasm. I don’t think today’s politicians even realize how destructive their rhetoric has become. We can debate which side is worse but thats irrelevant to some degree.
While Trump posted several times yesterday that he was going to try and focus on a unifying message, I’m not sure all the speakers got the memo. Likewise, Biden can’t seem to let go of some of his standard jabs at Trump which he acknowledged in the interview with NBC last night.
Sadly, I don’t see anything on the horizon that will change anything, even with Saturday night’s attack still fresh in our minds.
