An estimated 15,000-20,000 men, women and children turned out in Lakewood on Sunday evening to welcome six of the leading Eretz Yisroel Gedolim to Lakewood, as they continue their unprecedented visit to the US to raise $107 million for yeshivos and kollelim in Eretz Hakodesh.
The gathering – which took place at 10th and Clifton, in the parking lots adjacent to BMG’s Bais Aharon and Bais Shalom batei medrashim – was briefly delayed as a powerful thunderstorm rolled through Lakewood, but its ferocity met its match in the enthusiasm and vigor of the massive assembly, who turned out in droves to be give the world’s Torah luminaries a proper greeting.
The Roshei Yeshiva – Rav Moshe Hillel Hirsch, Rav Yaakov Hillel, Rav Don Segal, Rav Dov Landau, the Rachmastrivker Rebbe and Rav Avraham Salim – are seeking to raise the amount that the government has cut in stipend funding to Yeshivos and Kollelim across Eretz Yisroel.
The Gedolim have private events scheduled every day this week, where they are planning to meet with philanthropists and Baalei Tzedakah in hopes of raising this colossal amount of money.

Why didn’t they have them come to our of town communities that could use the chizzuk?
And why couldn’t the cost of the private plane trips be donated?

An absolute embarrassment for gedolei e”y. That video clip leaves me wondering what was the highlight of the event: כבוד התורה or סכנות נפשות?
@lakewhut, in your particular case there was no need since your community already has it’s own self-proclaimed Godol (a certain commentor that seems to always feel he knows better than them).

They did not come ONLY to raise money, all they needed was a few people to donate 15 million and that was it… A big reason why they came is to show Hacaras Hatov and Kavod Hatorah to these g’virim because they don’t want to make it seem like America is just an ATM that they can get money from. They said publicly that it is not so pashut for them to come, but because Torah Learning depends on it it’s a different case. Just remember that these are the gedolei yisroel, so please don’t question them for how they conducted this, because I’m sure that they considered all of these things, plus more.

Gedolei haTorah come to schnor money like common meshulochim, is that kovod haTorah?! The gevirim should go to them! Instead, the gedolim run around to the mansions of the gevirim.
The Gedolei HaTorah are true Royalty, מאן מלכי? רבנן, who are the true Kings? The Rabonon! These are our Kings!
Which is why I find it unsettling to see the greatest of our Gedolei HaTorah, coming like meshulochim to schnor money from the המון עם, the simple folk in their mansions.
Shouldn’t the המון עם be summoned for the honor of visiting Royalty in their palaces of Torah in EY?
True, רבי מכבד עשירים, Rabi Yehuda HaNosi would honor the wealthy (even if they were impoverished of Torah wealth), but he wouldn’t chase after their money.

How will the loot be divvied up among all the Eretz Yisroel Yeshivos and Kollelim? Six Gedolim, collecting $100 Million, that’s a lot of money to be FAIRLY divided. Who will oversee this? It sure won;’t be the Gedolim! They will go back to their learning and a full time crew will be needed. Who will be accountable?
Will they share the loot with Breslov? Chabad? Sefardi/Temani? or are they not part of the “Olom HaTorah”? Who qualifies and who is michutz l’machaneh haTorah?
Is it strictly an old boy’s club?! Too many details are missing!!!
