Olmert Speaks of the Window of Opportunity

Officials in the Prime Minister’s Office announced Prime Minister Ehud Olmert views the coming weeks as a ‘window of opportunity’ to reach an agreement with the PA (Palestinian Authority) and sign on an agreement.

Olmert is entering into intense talks with PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) in the hope of reaching an agreement that would include compromising Israel’s sovereignty in Yerushalayim, as well as other concessions. The two leaders, both winding down their terms, are hoping to sign an agreement that will permit them a final trip to Washington for a ceremony with US President George W. Bush.

Members of the coalition and opposition are critical of Olmert, expressing their opposition to his committing Israel to any new agreements in the final weeks in office.
