Kharkiv’s Jewish Mayor Gennady Kernes, who was shot and critically wounded, has been flown to Israel for continued life-saving treatment. It appears the request for Israeli assistance was made by Ukrainian authorities, who are well aware of the vast experience of surgeons in major medical centers in Israel.

It appears the mayor’s injuries are extensive and involve his liver, spine and other organs. He remains in life-threatening condition. He arrived after midnight on 29 Nissan and officials moved him to a Haifa Hospital.

The mayor is a warm friend of the local Jewish community, which continues prayers for his recovery.
