Many have been wondering what prompted Egged this year to begin displaying the counting of the omer in buses in Yerushalayim. Under the “stop” sign between station the bus displays the proper counting for the day of the omer. This was not done in previous years yet it was seen last week, but it appears to have since disappeared.
Reports from riders on a number of lines signal the omer notification exists on service to Gilo, Kiryat Yovel, the Old City and to Shomron communities including Ofra and Beit El.
Kippa probed why the sudden interest in displaying the omer count and learned from Egged officials that the program, which has already ended, was experimental, operating on a few lines. It was a test of the system that permits Egged to display a pre-programmed message to riders between stops. It ran for a number of days and has since ended.

Actually, it was probably the rightists and not leftists who stopped it, since it says there l’Omer and not b’Omer ☺
Maybe they stopped it cuz the sefaradim ( hu say “la’omer” before the week count) complained….
