Gaza War Debris Removal Could Take 14 Years, UN Official Warns

A senior officer at the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), Pehr Lodhammar, has stated during a briefing in Geneva that the extensive rubble and unexploded ordnance left behind by the conflict between Israel and the Hamas terror group in the Gaza Strip may require approximately 14 years to clear.

Lodhammar reported that the war has resulted in an estimated 37 million tons of debris scattered across the densely populated coastal enclave, which presents significant challenges for removal efforts.

While the exact number of unexploded ordnance in Gaza remains uncertain, Lodhammar emphasized the potential time frame for debris clearance, suggesting that it could take up to 14 years under certain conditions. He highlighted the persistence of unexploded ammunition, estimating a failure rate of at least 10 percent, and outlined the magnitude of the task ahead, indicating the need for 100 trucks to address the extensive cleanup process.

  1. They are getting away far too lightly with only 14 years. It should be יום לשנה יום לשנה hence currently 203 years & counting, until every hostage has been safely released

  2. This is great news for Gaza! Imagine the employment opportunities it now will provide, especially on the dime of the kind, caring philanthropic UN members and other “peace loving”, pro-Palestinian people. Nothing to be sad about here. 14 golden years of diligent labor offered to people who are supposedly indigent refugees.

  3. Let’s not forget who caused it all.
Question, is the debris from Hamas’ many rocket launching sites included in that estimate?

  4. 14 years?! We could indescriminently shovel all of Gaza into the sea in about 14 days. Hey, Israel is being falsely accused of genocide anyway. Might as well follow up on this blood libel. What is the UN going to do, whine harder? Tell them to shove off.

  5. 14 years because of all of the money that will be filtered for “other” purposes. It wouldn’t take anyone else on this earth 14 years.

  6. 14 years and 14 billion dollars to create another 1400 miles of terror tunnels. No thank you.

Let them move to Jordan which was supposed to be a Palestinian state under the partition plan or move to Iran and Qatar who is largely responsible for the demolition.
