YWN regrets to inform you of the Petira of Hagon Rav Yoel Eliezer Rosen ZATZAL, a Magid Shiur, and RAM in Mirrer Yeshiva for more than 40 years. Rav Rosen learned in Baranovitch by Hagon Rav Elchonon Wasserman HY”D, and then in the Mirrer Yeshiva in Poland – and was one of the Torah Giants produced by Baranovitch and the Mir.
As a Bochur in the Mir, Rav Rosen was part of a Chabura which produced many Gedolim including Maran Hagon Rav Shmuel Berenbaum ZATZAL – and sadly, was one of the last “Alter Mirrer” left in this world.
He was regarded as a tremendous Goan and Anav, and was well-known for his Bikiyus in Kodshim Gemaros. Over the years he had written many notebooks full of Chidushim on various Masechtos, and under the direct instruction of Rav Shmuel Berenbaum two years ago – a group of Yungerleit prepared a Sefer to print. Sadly, just as Rav Shmuel Berenbaum was Nifter (approximately 7 months ago), the Sefer was released.
For the past 5 years Rav Rosen suffered from various illnesses, and Rav Shmuel Berenbaum made sure that a group of dedicated Bochrim attended to his needs 24 hrs a day, and appointed various Askanim to ensure that he was taken care-of in a way befitting a Goan, and Tzadik.
He leaves behind a daughter, and thousands of Talmidim.
The Levaya will be taking place in the Mirrer Yeshiva Bais Medrash on Sunday at 12:00PM (Ocean Parkway & Avenue R).

I never had Rabbi Rosen as a rebbi, but I remember him well from my days in Mir a quarter-century ago. He always had a “saiver panim yafos” and was good a good friend of my rebbi, Rabbi Orchechovitz A”H.

The Rosh Yeshiva was “machshiv” Rav Yoel during his later years when he wasn’t well, he seated him up front next to him by shalosh seudos and expressed his tefillos that R’ Yoel should have a refuah so that he could teach his Torah again.
