I do not support sherut leumi but I’ve never heard an intelligent explanation of why it is so terrible other than have emunas chachomim , the gedloim said it is .wrong. WHY it is so wrong and so inherently different from say jury duty is something I do not understand. (this is assuming there is an actual pressing need for national service. Not the government insisting on it to show who is the boss,, which my have been the case in the early days of the state of Israel)
