Satmar Distributes Funds in Yerushalayim

satMany representatives of kehillos of communities in Eretz Yisrael headed for the Satmar office in the Ezras Torah area of Yerushalayim on Thursday as Satmar is distributing funds. Included in the recipients will be bnei yeshivos who did not report to IDF induction center.

The Satmar Rebbe of Williamsburg Shlita promised to reward mosdos that refrain from accepting money from the State of Israel. The campaign is referred to as שקל הטהור. This distribution will be given primarily to avreichim and not mosdos.

  1. The Satmar Rebbe Shlita is distributing funds to bnei yeshivos to avreichim who did not report to IDF induction center.

We should all learn from him what to do. We need more people like him to make this big kidush hashem.

  2. The Kenesset is considering a law to ban Satmar from distributing funds in Israel (only pro-zionist charitable operations will be allowed to operate in Israel). The stakes are getting higher.

  3. #2: “We should all learn from him what to do.” Yes, you are totally correct — I think you should send money to people that do not report for the draft. I’m sure you have already sent in money – to where should the rest of us send checks? Really a tremendous kiddush Hashem.

  4. If you don’t like the law of the land in which you live, work to change it, don’t ignore it and expect everything to be alright. If I don’t like paying my taxes, I can’t just not pay and complain when I get arrested.

  5. Had the satmar rebbe enouraged avreichim and bnei yeshivos to vote in the last election instead of paying them $100 not to vote, the chareidi parties would have won more seats in the knesset and it would not have been necesary to distribute funds now nor to suffer the change in the draft law. It’s really wonderful to sit in williamsburg and be, as the kotzker said, a “Tzaddik in peltz”. If the Satmar rebbe wants to change the government in israel, let him move there.

  6. Only in the Holy Medina would something like this happen and allowed to continue. A foreign entitiy (Satmar) is coming into a democratic country and rewarding people monetarily to break the law. What would happen in the US if a Russian would come and pay a US citizen not to pay taxes?
The Chessed of this Medina toward those who openly disobey the laws is mind boggling. The Satmar Rebbe bashes the Israeli government, loudly tells ciitizens to break the law, and financially supports them, and the Israeli government continues to allow him to enter.
    Mi KiAmcha Yisrael

  7. TO junkfreesignup AND jackr:

Do you hold that the established government’s laws are binding no matter if they are unjust, and in particular, if they are against HaShem’s laws. In a democracy, change only occurs if the majority of the people favor it – if the majority favor unjust laws, do you hold by observing such laws. If you were a German 75 years ago (pure “aryan” under their theory), would you have obeyed the law and loyally followed orders. You may object to comparing the zionists to the nazis, but from a traditional Jewish perspective, declaring war on the yeshivos and the people who devote their lives to mitsvos is no different than rounding up all persons of Jewish descent – and perhaps even worse since it is an attack on Torah rather being based on classic “bad science” racial theories.

Your “Mi KiAmcha Yisrael” is a joke. Most countries in the world respect religious minorities and recognize the principle of conscientious objection to military service. One would hope that to make the Israelis look good, you don’t have to compare them to the Iranians, or the North Koreans, or the Nazis.

Even today with the cuts by the present Israeli government, the Medina is financially the greatest supporter of Torah in the history of the Jewish people. The Zionist government has financed the growth of torah Judiasm from 700 full time learners in the time of Ben Gurion to the tens of thousands today. It permitted, financed and aided the growth of the Hareidi population in Eretz Yisrael by giving tax money collected from non-observant Jews to Torah learners. For 65 years the Zionist regime put food on the table of non working Yeshiva men, so that they could sit in Yeshiva and be free of work. Not appreciating the huge contribution of the Israeli people to the growth of Torah is shameful. Your lack of Hakaros Hatov is disgraceful.

  9. #6 is 100% percent right.. if Satmar would have encouraged their supporters to vote instead of paying them NOT to vote we might not be in this situation !!!!

  10. Wow, have you all got it wrong!!

We, here in America, are blessed that our children are not allowed to hunger. With programs like WIC, food stamps, and free lunches for the most impoverished, no child goes to bed famished.

In E”Y that is not so. There are families – voters and non-voters alike – that are literally starving. There is no program in place to help feed the poor. Pesach, as we all know, requires even more food than any other Yom Tov.

You can debate the Satmar Rebbe’s (zt”l) ‘shitah’ regarding Zionism, but you are fools to attack the generosity and zedakah of Satmar throughout the world. How many Jews have benefitted (and continue to do so) from Satmar’s gemilas chasodim.

This money that was sent to E”Y, as in all previous years, went to the large families who do not receive any stipends whatsoever.

As for you #11, are you saying that because Satmar didn’t vote, all poor children in E”Y are being penalized? What a heartless and cruel government!!
