Flatbush / Marine Park: Assemblywoman Weinstein Expands ‘Chametz Dumpster’ Program

h

Assemblywoman Helene Weinstein is pleased to announce the return of the successful “Chametz dumpster” program for residents of the greater East 30’s, Midwood, and Marine Park neighborhoods.

For over two decades, the Assemblywoman has been coordinating with the NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) to coordinate complementary Pesach garbage collections. The dumpster program, started in 2008 after meetings with local Rabbonim and community askanim, has expanded to five central and convenient locations for residents to deposit chametz and the remnants of their late morning burnings. These containers are an addition to the special Pesach pickups scheduled.

“In 2008, we saw the need was there and it was growing,” said the Assemblywoman. “What we couldn’t have predicted is how popular the service would become, and I, along with the Department of Sanitation and community, will continue to monitor and expand the program as necessary. I thank the DSNY for being so understanding and accommodating to the needs of the Orthodox Jewish community.”

The dumpsters will be available for deposits starting in the early morning hours of Monday, April 14th (Erev Pesach) and will be removed by 4pm that same day. The locations are as follows:

❖James Madison High School – Quentin Road (between Bedford Ave. & E. 26th St.)
❖Public School 240 (Andries Hudde) – 2500 Nostrand Avenue
❖City Park Adjacent to Derech Hatorah – 2810 Nostrand Avenue (between Kings Hwy. & P)
❖Rabbi Rokeach’s Shul – 3302 Avenue P (on East 33rd Street)
❖*NEW* – Marine Park Jewish Center – 3311 Avenue S

Last-minute changes may mean dumpsters are placed at locations nearby the listed areas. Residents can call the Assemblywoman’s district office to obtain the location if a dumpster is not where reported at (718) 648-4700. Chag Sameach!
