Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder (D-Far Rockaway) and Councilman Donovan Richards (D-Far Rockaway) joined the Jewish Community Council of the Rockaway Peninsula (JCCRP) in announcing additional garbage collections and a centralized location for chometz burning in anticipation of Pesach for the Far Rockaway Jewish community.
“It is great to see city agencies working together to carry on the traditions and cultures of our community in Far Rockaway,” said Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder. “I commend the Department of Sanitation, Parks Department and the FDNY for their honorable service to our families.”
The Department of Sanitation will conduct multiple extra garbage collections on Erev Pesach, Monday April 14th from 6AM to 11AM. Additionally, stationary Sanitation trucks will be at the corner of Beach 6th Street and Hicksville Road in Far Rockaway.
“I am very happy to announce in conjunction with Assemblyman Goldfeder and JCCRP that preparations are underway for Passover,” said Councilman Donovan Richards. “I also would like to thank the Department of Sanitation for really stepping up in order to help everyone celebrate Passover safely. I hope that everyone has a very safe and enjoyable Passover.”
To accommodate the anticipated large amount of trash, Sanitation request all garbage be placed outside by midnight on Sunday, April 13th. Additionally, to speed up collection the following Monday, residents should use plastic bags where possible and put out any items for pickup during the week prior. The Department of Sanitation will make every effort to complete this task by 11:00AM on Monday April 14th, Goldfeder noted.
Also, in an effort to keep every family safe, the JCCRP has arranged a centralized location for a community wide chometz burning under the supervision of the FDNY. Chometz may be brought on April 14, 2014 from 9:00 to 11:45 AM to the paddle ball courts located at Lanett Playground on Lanett Ave in Far Rockaway.
Due to the safety concerns for our area residents, the JCCRP, Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder and Councilman Donovan Richards encourage all residents to exercise caution during their preparations for the upcoming holiday.
