Contrary to initial reports, a knife attack at Jerusalem’s central bus station is being treated as a criminal incident, not terrorism, Israeli police clarified.
The incident began when police officers from the Jerusalem and Tel Aviv districts were tracking a suspect in a Tel Aviv murder earlier that day. When they approached the suspect near the Jerusalem Central Station, he pulled out a large knife and moved towards them quickly, prompting the detectives to shoot him. Simultaneously, civilian security guards also fired a shot at the suspect. The suspect, who was arrested and injured in the incident, is believed to be the perpetrator of a murder earlier today in Tel Aviv. One other civilian was slightly injured in the chaos.
Videos posted online showed families running away from the bus station on Yaffo Street, adding to the initial panic and confusion. However, police have reassured the public that the incident is under control and not related to terrorism. An investigation is ongoing.
